Freelance book editing for romance authors and publishers.

Why choose
Shelfworn Romance?

We've all seen the dreaded Goodreads reviews that say, "DNF - too many typos."

As a writer, you've spent countless hours creating your characters, building a story, and sweating the details. Maybe you've Googled things that the FBI would flag.

You've put time, late nights, and pieces of your soul into your book.

Don't let typos hinder your success.

Choosing an editor can be tough. You need someone you can trust, someone who won't judge your writing, someone who won't balk at some of the shit your characters are into. You need someone who will take care with your words and give you honesty when you need it.

These are qualities you can expect from me.

SUBSTANTIVE
EDITING

A substantive edit is an in-depth assessment of your manuscript. This type of editing offers an analysis of characters, plot, sentence structure, narrative, and pacing.

A copyedit focuses on grammar, mechanics, punctuation, syntax, diction, factual inconsistencies, and minor suggestions of revision when needed.

Proofreading is the last step before publication and aims to correct any errors that were not caught during copyediting or were introduced during typesetting.

EDITORIAL
LETTER

An editorial letter is an unbiased review of your manuscript. It includes a discussion about the manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, and offers broad suggestions for improvement.

Hi, I'm Kyra.

(pronounced kai-rah)

I love romance books.

That's the most important thing to know, in my opinion. Sure, I like YA and fantasy when the mood strikes, but I always come back to adult romance. Slow burn, steamy, MC, mafia, sports, contemporary, erotica – you name it, I love it. Romance novels are *chef's kiss.*

I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2012 with my BA in English with a specialty in creative writing. In 2015, I graduated with my MS in writing and book publishing from Portland State University. I've spent the last decade editing a variety of fiction and nonfiction books, as well as copywriting and editing for small businesses. As of 2022, I'm focused exclusively on the romance genre. Do what you love, right?

I'm a dog mom and a coffee addict. My bookshelves are chaotic. I enjoy traveling to new places and camping in the middle of nowhere. I'd like to tell you that I have a bunch of other hobbies and interests but...I don't. Honesty and authenticity are two things you can always expect from me.
